Matej Metlikovič je eden osrednjih predstavnikov sodobne slovenske sakralne umetnosti. Njegova dela so hkrati tradicionalna in sodobna, umetnik gradi na temeljitem poznavanju krščanske umetnosti in se zaveda loka, ki ga je ta umetnost ustvarila v dolgih stoletjih vse do našega časa. Blizu so mu stvaritve avtorjev moderne dobe, od Kandinskega, Chagalla, Matissea, Le Corbusiera do naših bratov Kraljev in Kregarja. Iz njihovih pobud izhaja, vendar jih izvirno in svobodno preobraža ter s tem doseže sodoben izraz svoje umetnosti.
Matej Metlikovič is one of Slovenia’s most significant contributors to contemporary sacred art. His works are both traditional and modern; he creates on the basis of a profound understanding of Christian art, appreciating the arch it has created over many centuries and leading up to our times. With an affinity for the work of artists of the modern age – from Kandinsky to Chagall, Matisse, Le Corbusier and Slovenian artists France Kralj and Stane Kregar – Metlikovič builds upon their initiatives, freely and originally transforming their message to achieve a unique contemporary expression in his own art.
